neighborly walks
As most people know I live in a townhouse, and the other homes in the association are primarily owned by people who are much older than me. My neighbors across the street The "M"s have been so nice to me since I Have moved in. They have followed my progress, at one point Mrs M and I took a workout class together (sit and be fit), ive borrowed sugar ect.. SO NICE... Well, a few months ago Mr M suffered from a pretty bad stroke, so sad. He is doing well though and is a very determined man. I have recently seen him and his wife "practicing" driving around the parking lot and street outside. Mr M takes walks every morning, he REALLY wants to gain the independence of driving again and there is a check list of things he needs to accomplish in order to so. Yesterday, I realized it was garbage day and my garbage was not taken out. So, I slipped on my shoes and out to the garage I went. I somehow managed to slowly drag the recycle can and black can to the curb. ALL while I was doing this Mr M was out for his morning walk. He walks from one end to the street with the other all bundled up and using his cane. He saw me and came over to talk with me. He informed me of his progress and how he is making himself take a walk every day no matter what. He then also informed me that him and his wife pray for me whenever they see me and hope that I never give up in my battle. They said they love the "youth" and life I bring as I walk and play with my dogs outside, and enjoy seeing my friends and family come and go from my home. Mr M and I talked for a good 10min. He then "invited" me to join him whenever I felt up to go on his neighborly morning walk with him - I was touched. So, I went to get my mail this morning and sure enough Mr M was out walking.... So... I joined him. Him with his silver four pronged cane clutched in one hand, while he softly held his wifes hand with the other. The three of us took a slow stroll around the parking lot and they told me about thier Christmas decorations in thier house, how they love the song Silent Night and how they desperately miss thier family. As I walked back up my driveway, across the street I heard Mr. M shout "have a great day mandy!" and I yelled back " you too!" It was a pleasant and unexpected walk... and I think I might keep joining him every once in awhile.
